Favour Akanbi is a Doctoral Researcher at the Dullah Omar Institute, within the Socio-Economic Rights Project at the University of the Western Cape. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 2023 from the University of Fort Hare.
In 2025, she completed her LL.M in Human Rights Law at the University of the Western Cape. Her thesis, titled “Child Marriage in Nigeria: A Legal Analysis of Domestic Laws and Customary Practices in Relation to International Human Rights Standards,” interrogates the ambiguities and contradictions within Nigeria’s legal framework governing child marriage, particularly the tensions between statutory law, customary practices, and international human rights obligations.
Since joining the Dullah Omar Institute in 2024, Favour has contributed to research within the Socio-Economic Rights Project, engaging in a range of academic and policy-oriented initiatives addressing children’s rights, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and broader socio-economic rights issues in Africa. Her work sits at the intersection of law, public health, and social justice, with a particular focus on strengthening rights-based legal and policy frameworks that protect vulnerable populations.
