Independent Medico-Legal Unit

The Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) is a non-governmental organization that seeks a torture free society by promoting the rights of torture victims and survivors, and which seeks to protect all Kenyans from all forms of state-perpetrated torture by advocating for policy reforms, monitoring government adherence to human rights, rehabilitating victims of torture and capacity building of key stakeholders.

The Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) has been documenting torture cases and using legal and advocacy means to seek justice for torture survivors since 1992. IMLU assists and rehabilitates torture victims through the provision of medical and psychological treatment, facilitating legal interventions and documenting torture cases in Kenya. IMLU also actively advocates against torture through the media and other outlets.
