Since its first publication in 2007, Local Government Law of South Africa (LexisNexis) has become an indispensable reference for municipal officials, practitioners, and the courts. Now in its 17th issue, this trusted loose-leaf treatise continues to evolve with the addition of two new co-authors, Dr Johandri Wright and Dr Curtly Stevens, joining Professors Nico Steytler and Jaap de Visser of the Dullah Omar Institute. Together, they bring fresh perspectives to the ever-pressing challenges faced by municipalities, from financial distress and governance failures to the urgent need to restore the rule of law. The updated edition reflects the state of local government law as at 31 December 2024 and continues the book’s long tradition of providing clear, critical, and practical guidance for those working to strengthen developmental local governance in South Africa.
