Food Security, Planning & the PHA Food & Farming Campaign
On 31 August, Prof Jaap de Visser led a workshop on land use planning to inform the PHA Food & Farming Campaign
The PHA Food & Farming Campaign works to protect the Philippi Horticulture Area for the benefit of all citizens of Cape Town. It is currently campaigning to arrest the City of Cape Town's plans to convert part of this area, rich in urban agriculture, to commercial and residential use.
Prof De Visser was invited to lead a workshop with members of the campaign to share his views on the development of the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (SPLUMA), the Western Cape Land Use Planning Act and municipal by-laws. The Workshop was held under the auspices of the DST-NRF Centre of Excellence on Food Security and was hosted by the Centre for Environmental Rights. The presentation can be downloaded here.
