Kristen Petersen attends UN Treaty Bodies Litigators’ Meeting
This year focused extensively on the resolution of complaints by the UN treaty bodies. (I.e. the caseload of the committees; trends in the issues and any impact of reform efforts on litigation were discussed.) Some of the discussions centred on recent developments regarding the procedural issues at the UN, (including interim measures; hearings; third party submissions; remedies) and the main developments in jurisprudence in each of the United Nations Treaty Bodies. The meeting also provided members an opportunity to engage with some members of the UN Treaty bodies. (one member of the Human Rights Committee and a member of the Economic Social and Cultural Rights Committee briefly attended the meeting)
The meeting is scheduled every second year and it provides an opportunity for members from different parts of the world in the legal and civil society fraternity working in the field of justice and human rights to engage in robust discussions on their interactions and experiences with the various United Nations treaty bodies.
