State Institution Visits: Limpopo House of Traditional Leaders

The morning engagement with the traditional leaders created a platform for robust engagement. The Secretary of the House Mr Mashele together with the Honourable Chairperson Kgoshi Dikgale M.S and the other members of the Traditional House articulated their position on access to land and land administration.

The key issue discussed was the current role they perform with respect to land administration. The House expressed their displeasure with the lack of powers afforded to them within the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act. They articulated that there is a disjuncture in what they perceive their powers to be and what the legal framework provides. In the discussion the delegation enquired about gender representation and input in the House by women.

The House members assured the delegation that women are equally prioritised and consulted in all matters however they pointed out that the nature in which these consultations occurs is markedly different from the Western concepts of consultation.
