Workshop reviews the African Children’s Charter Project

The Children’s Rights Project attended a three-day project review and planning workshop by African Children’s Charter Project (ACCPII) between 18th and 20th February 2019 in Banjul, The Gambia.

The purpose of the workshop was to undertake a strategic review of the progress and lessons of the African Children’s Charter Project during its first year (2018) of ACCP2; finalise the 2019 activity and budget plan; finalise the project’s Monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) plan; review its the draft exit strategy and methods of working through a consultative process involving multiple stakeholders (consortium members, ACERWC and its Secretariat).

Workshop participants were placed into working groups of 4–5 individuals, with each group given a key contextual factor with the potential to impact on plans for 2019. Those factors comprised: operations, geo-politics, socio-cultural considerations, international factors, and economic factors. The results of the working sessions have been synthesised into the key findings with potential to impact on the ACCPII project in the coming year.

This workshop involved the project consortium members and major stakeholders, including the ACERWC and its Secretariat. ACCPII is jointly implemented by five Pan African child rights organisations namely Plan International, ACPF, Save the Children Sweden, the Dullah Omar Institute, and the Institute of Human Rights and Development in Africa; with the goal of realising children’s rights in Africa through facilitating and promoting the implementation of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC). To achieve its goal and objectives, the project consortium works in close partnership with the African Union (AU), the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC), and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
