Equality and Employment: A Better Deal for Women
The Gender Project produced a research paper analysing the equality clause in the Constitution looking specifically at the prohibition against unfair discrimination on the basis of sex or gender.
A number of measures to redress systemic gender disadvantage in the employment context are examined and ways are suggested in which they can be incorporated into legislation in South Africa. The booklet was written primarily with the intention of assisting in the discussion around and drafting of the Promotion of Equality and Prohibition of Unfair Discrimination Bill which has subsequently been enacted by parliament in 2000. Amendments are also suggested to the Employment Equity Act of 1998.
