On 21 February 2024 the SARChl Chair in Multilevel Government, Law and Development at the Dullah Omar Institute, in collaboration with the Hanns Seidel Foundation, hosted the seminar on ‘A citizen’s perspective on the rule of law - Democracy and elections in South Africa’. The panelists included Prof Henk Kummeling (Rector Magnificus, Distinguished University Professor, Utrecht University and Chairperson Staatscommissie Rechtsstaat (State Commission on the Rule of Law, Netherlands)), Prof Cherrel Africa (Assoc Prof, Dept of Political Studies, UWC) and Mr Michael Hendrickse (WC Provincial Electoral Officer, IEC). The seminar was moderated by Prof Jaap de Visser (National Research Chair in Multilevel Government, Law & Development, Dullah Omar Institute).
